Match sprint
How does a match sprint work?
Two riders race a few laps, and the first one over the line wins. You race the best of three heats.
Nobody wants to lead. The rider behind can sit out of the wind and jump past at the end. So the first laps are slow, like cat and mouse. Then one rider goes, and the last 200 m are flat out.
The game steers your bike up and down the banking. When you lead slowly, you ride up high to watch the rider behind. If that rider comes close, you swing up the banking at them so they can’t pass over the top. When you go really hard, you drop down the banking, and the drop gives you speed.
On one device, you race a bot. It is the Diesel until you pick another one: tap the bot’s name above the Bots slider, and pick another bot. Each one races in their own way. If Who you race against says Men, you pick from the men. If it says Women, you pick from the women. If it says Open, you see everyone, with the strongest at the top. The game remembers your pick for your next match sprints.
Two riders on one device race each other.
Listen to the announcer. When you are behind, sit a bike length or two back and a little higher than the other rider, and watch. More than three or four bike lengths back is too far: when the other rider jumps, you can’t catch up. If you sit too close, you can’t react. The announcer tells you when your gap is too big, when you sit too close, and what won or lost each heat.
